Minnesota’s updated warranty law goes into effect on October 1, 2023.

As we near the effective date, MADA has been receiving several calls seeking guidance on the matter.

The law itself is straightforward: “Compensation for warranty labor must equal the dealer's effective nonwarranty labor rate multiplied by the time guide used by the dealer for nonwarranty customer-paid service repair orders.”
See §80E.041, Subd. 4.

In even simpler terms, this means manufacturers must pay dealers for warranty work based on the same time guide used when charging retail customers.
