Shop Talk: The Technician Crisis

The automotive service industry is facing an epidemic of epic proportions that we have not seen before. In a new report published by TechForce Foundation1, the annual demand for new automotive technicians is forecasted at 75,900 on average for the 2016-2026 decade. However, the number of individuals entering automotive-based education programs and subsequently applying to your position listings are not keeping pace! We are now reaching a critical point and must ask ourselves, “how do we navigate this crisis?”

Join us as we develop a roadmap for the future in Shop Talk: The Technician Crisis! You will learn the reasons for why this shortage exists and how you can take steps to help put an end to it. You will learn and explore actions that your dealership or body shop can take TODAY to help build a roadmap for a successful future.

Attendees will:

  • Receive a checklist to evaluate your operation and determine ways you can improve efficiency.
  • Learn a new, surgical approach to overcoming your technician shortage immediately.
  • Develop a Technician Bill of Rights that will help you become an attractive destination where technicians will want to stay and become a valuable asset.
  • Create a culture of communication and ongoing training that will include your advisors, technicians, and parts department.

We will also have the opportunity to hear from local business and technical colleges that have successfully implemented innovative recruiting efforts to address the technician shortage.

Presenter Highlight: Rob Gehrig, Fixed Performance
