Commissioners Acknowledge MNLARS Shortcomings

December 14, 2017

Yesterday, MADA received a joint letter from Minnesota IT Services (MNIT) Commissioner Tom Baden and Department of Public Safety Commissioner Mona Dohman acknowledging that MNLARS is causing delays in processing some motor vehicle transactions while others aren't able to be completed at all.  While our members are already acutely aware of these realities, the purpose of the letter is for dealers to have official documentation from the state that can be used with both customers and business partners (e.g. lenders, manufacturers, etc..) to demonstrate that delays in receiving titles, license plates, lien cards and the like are due to problems with MNLARS and are not the fault of the dealer.

MADA recommends including copies of this letter to customers at the time of sale in order to help inoculate against potentially negative CSI scores from customers unhappy with titling and registration delays. The letter is available here.
